Information for Employers
Funded summer placement students in Northern Ireland
If you are an SME in Northern Ireland, we offer you students from further education colleges, who are keen to take up summer placements of four to six weeks with your company to gain engineering experience in an industrial environment at technician and apprentice level. The placements are delivered by an expert work placement organisation – The Nuffield Foundation – which works with host companies to provide support to deliver a high-quality work experience for the students. Host companies are encouraged to interview potential students before accepting them. Students are paid a bursary by Engineers Make It Happen, so host companies do not have to pay a salary.
Five students completed Bursareis in summer 2008 and twelve students in summer 2009. We plan to place fifteen students in summer 2010.
If you're interested in the scheme for summer 2010, you can find out about the scheme without making any commitment on The Nuffield website or by downloading the scheme's employer information . The call for host companies for summer 2010 will occur in December 2009.

Industrial Training courses
Engineers Make It Happen recognises the importance of maintaining the industrial knowledge of lecturers, to enable lecturers to inspire their students with latest industrial practice. We wish to enable lecturers to attend technical training courses run by large engineering companies across the UK for their own employees. Rolls-Royce, Lloyd's Register and QinetiQ are already offering some of their in-house training to support this scheme. We welcome approaches from engineering companies who may be able to offer places on their ‘in-house’ training courses. Engineers Make It Happen will fund lecturer places on suitable courses. If your company could contribute to this scheme please contact: enquiries@engineersmakeithappen.co.uk
