Student Work Placements

Summer work Bursaries available to further education students in Northern Ireland only.

Engineering companies increasingly expect students to gain hands-on experience of working in industry before they apply for their first engineering job. As a Lecturer you will appreciate that not all further education students get adequate opportunity to gain an understanding of industry in this way.

Engineers Make it Happen is working with The Nuffield Foundation to deliver funded summer placement Bursaries for further education students in Northern Ireland, allowing them to gain new experience in small and medium-sized engineering companies. Students are paid a weekly Bursary by Engineers Make It Happen, so host companies do not have to pay a salary.

Twelve students are now taking up their placements across Northern Ireland in August and September 2009.

The call for applicants for the summer 2010 scheme will occur in December 2009. If you think this scheme would benefit your students, you can find out all about the scheme without making any commitment on The Nuffield website or by downloading the scheme's student information .
